SA wins gold in lawn bowls

"Fantastic effort.": Bowls SA president.

South African lawn bowlers Susan Nel, Tracy-Lee Botha, Santjie Steyn and Esme Steyn won another gold medal for the country when they defeated Malaysia 14-9 in the final of the Women’s Fours at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland on Sunday.

Bowls SA president Allan Freeman congratulated the team for their win, after they had to come back from being down 9-4 on the ninth end.

“Fantastic effort! I was choked with emotion. And on Monday the men’s Trips have a chance at another gold medal — too fantastic,” he told SuperSport.

“And do not forget Colleen Piketh, what a player. She showed she belongs among the best singles players in the world, to play for bronze.”

The South African men’s triples team face Northern Ireland in the final today.
