New top cop to marshall Boschop police

Lieutenant Colonel Abakona David Sithole started his duties at the station in the beginning of August after he was taken from a police station in Ga-Rankuwa.

A new station commander has been appointed to lead the Bocshkop police station and has committed to big plans as he hits the ground running.

Lieutenant-Colonel Abakona David Sithole started his duties at the station at the beginning of August, after he was transferred from a police station in Ga-Rankuwa.

Sithole replaced Lieutenant-Colonel Raymond Monyai who died last month, after a battle with Covid-19.

The committed crime fighter said he was looking forward to dismantling crime in the community and had already starting planning crime prevention measures.

“We will use all our limited resources optimally and prudently, to cover all our communities,” he said.

“We will be always accountable and accessible to the people in particular delivering quality service as per our mandate. “

The father of six started his career in 1990 and has worked his way up the ranks.

He worked at Soweto public order policing as a constable and later moved to Kliptown where he was promoted to sergeant in 1995.

Since then he has never looked back.

“I was promoted to lieutenant-colonel at the Ga-Rankuwa police station in 2018, where I worked as HR practitioner sub-section commander. |At the beginning of August, I was transferred to be the station commander at Boschkop SAPS.”

In his stint in the police service for close to 30 years, Sithole learnt that crime-fighting was a collective effort.

He has already met with the local CPF to check the level of co-operation and partnership with the communities as he wants to understand the criminal behavioural patterns in the area.

“This is key in helping to understand the needs of local communities because the output of what we do must manifest itself in our communities,” he said.

“We will participate in NGO activities where we are needed to interact with our people and participate in programmes that are aimed at curbing social ills.”

He said the police station serviced a wide range of communities who needed to feel safe and reassured.

Areas such as Olympus, Silver Lakes, Lethabong as well as Donkerhoek reported their cases there.

“We are also engaging local businesses after seeing that Bocshkop area comprises of farming communities, shopping centres, infrastructure developers, contractors, up-market housing, plots and poor communities,” he said.

“This is done to reassure our people that the police are committed to provide service of high standards.”

He committed to prioritising the fight against crimes which result in the loss of life, abuse of women and children, elderly people, robberies and hijackings.

“You join a team to add value and not to disrupt. Mine is to lead decisively. At the end it’s not about myself, but the community as a whole.

“Together we will succeed.”
