More successes for Operation Shanela in Pretoria

A joint law-enforcement operation led to the arrest of 381 people in Tshwane on suspicion of various crimes.
The operation entailed high-visibility patrols of crime hotspots, compliance inspections, a roadblock and raids on illicit liquor outlets.
Additionally, officers from various police stations within Tshwane played a pivotal role.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said among the 381 arrests, 75 were for gender-based violence-related crimes.
“One man was charged with murder, another with attempted murder and five for armed robbery,” he said.

Three operation groups in Sinoville and Kameeldrift
Three uniformed groups, comprising two tactical teams and a roadblock group, were tasked with policing Sinoville and Kameeldrift.
“The tactical groups inspected 11 liquor premises and found two non-compliant with the liquor act.”
Police confiscated thousands of litres of liquor as well as two freezers, and will destroy them upon finalization of the criminal case.
Van Dyk said one person was nabbed for possession of suspected stolen copper after he could not give a reasonable explanation for how he got it.
Furthermore, 63 undocumented immigrants were detained and will undergo deportation proceedings once legal matters are finalised.
He said the Department of Labour inspected five businesses and subsequently issued all with contravention notices.
Throughout the operation, Police searched a total of 2 405 people and 277 vehicles, and 256 Aarto infringement notices, totalling R126 250, were issued.
He said during the roadblock, 14 vehicles were tested to ensure they were not stolen.
This operation was executed with coordination, among other agencies, of the departments of home affairs, labour, Gauteng traffic, metro police, health inspectors, Tracker, crime prevention wardens, CPFs from the respective stations, and elected councillors.
General Nengovhela extended his heartfelt appreciation to all members who selflessly participated in the operation.
