Two Egyptian nationals due back in the dock for triple murder
The monks appeared briefly in the Cullinan magistrate’s court on March 22 and the matter was postponed to March 28

Two Egyptian nationals are expected back in court on March 28 for bail information after their case was postponed at the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Friday, March 22.
The two face three counts of murder.
NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the monk, Saeed Basonda (37) and priest Samuel Avamarkos (47) are accused of killing three fellow priests in the early hours of Tuesday, March 12.
Mahanjana said allegedly the three Coptic Church monks, Takla Elsmwaeili Ayoub Attia Mossoud Mouss, Marcos Shawkat Nasry Morid Wanas Mina and Marcos Mofed Tawfek Isaac Youstos were stabbed to death on the church premises in Cullinan, east of Pretoria.
She said their bodies were discovered by a church worker reporting for duty.
“The worker then informed the deacon of the church, and the police were called. After questioning, the two were arrested and remanded in custody.
The NPA intends to oppose bail in the matter.”
According to police, the three deceased were found with stab wounds, while the survivor alleged that he was hit with an iron rod in his hand before he fled and hid in one of the rooms.
Police said the suspects reportedly left the scene without taking any valuable items or property. The motive is unknown at this stage.
