UPDATE: Stop meddling in investigations about my son’s murder – mother

DJ Peter ‘the Noise Maker’ Mashata was gunned down in the early hours of Sunday and died at Akasia Hospital.

The mother of the late Pretoria MC and DJ Peter Mashata has pleaded with the public not to interfere with police investigations.

Mashata was shot dead in Soshanguve Block GG, north of Pretoria in the early hours of Sunday, April 21 while returning from a gig at Epozini Lifestyle in Soshanguve.

Rebecca Mabuse (62) said Mashata’s death was hard to take.

“I’m still asking myself a lot of questions, I still don’t believe that I’ve lost him.

“I’m still thinking maybe he is still alive and will come around and tell me this is not true,” said Mabuse.

She urged the community not to interfere with police investigations.

“People must stop this thing of tipping off the culprits about everything that’s happening.

“Where is that ‘ubuntu’ in this country?

“When an official such as [Gauteng Premier Panyaza] Lesufi announced that he is coming or the police are doing their searches, someone will tip off these culprits,” she said.

Mabuse described Mashata as a very respectful man.

Lesufi visited Mashata’s family on Monday, April 22 and mentioned that senior officials were handling the case.

“The family shared information that will be escalated to the investigation team.

“We will provide the investigating team with any resources they need to crack this case,” said Lesufi.

Rekord recently reported that Mashata died in a hail of bullets after two men opened fire at 01:00 near Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve campus.

Tshwane SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot said: “The suspects fled the scene. The one victim, by the name of Peter Mashata, was transported to a medical facility, however, he died at Akasia Hospital.

“The other victim was shot and injured.”

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

“Akasia police detectives will investigate a case of murder and attempted murder.”
