Pyramid substation refurbished 18 days after fire incident
Power and water supply have been restored to all areas affected by the outage caused when fire damaged the substation on September 20.
The Pyramid substation in the far north of Pretoria that was destroyed by a fire on September 20 has been successfully refurbished.
The breakdown of the 132/11kV substation that feeds Rooiwal, Ondersterpoort, Grootvlei West and East, Vastfontein and surrounds had left residents and farmers without electricity for over three weeks.

Last May, Tshwane had invested R25m in its refurbishment.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the substation has now been completed and power supply has been restored to all affected areas.
“In an impressive feat of engineering and construction, the substation was successfully rebuilt in just 18 days,” Mashigo said.
He said the rebuilding involved demolishing the damaged structure and replacing panels, feeder cables, circuit breakers, 132 KV isolator and key transformer components, and the project was expertly completed within schedule.
“The engineering team worked around the clock to restore essential components of the power distribution system, leading to power being restored to the affected areas.”

He added that during the outage, affected households were constantly provided with regular updates on the progress of the restoration efforts.
Mashigo said Tshwane apologises for any frustration or inconvenience caused.
