Police arrest 954 suspects for various crimes in Pretoria
Business premises were raided for non-compliance.

Tshwane police arrested 954 suspects and recovered three illegal firearms during Operation Shanela over the weekend.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the operation started in Sunnyside in Pretoria central.
“The week commenced with a high-density operation in Sunnyside.
Law enforcement personnel apprehended an undocumented immigrant and three people for drinking in public,” Van Dyk said.
He said three people were also arrested for contravening the Private Security Industry Regulation Act (PSIRA).
During the operation, police stopped and searched about 88 people and 66 vehicles, and inspected businesses including six liquor premises, for adherence to various compliance regulations.
“On Wednesday, liquor outlets and second-hand goods dealers in the CBD were inspected to enforce the liquor and secondhand goods acts.
Secondhand goods dealers were fined a total of R7 500,” added Van Dyk.
He said one liquor outlet was closed down while another was fined for non-compliance, which led to the confiscation of thousands of litres of liquor.
Van Dyk said these collaborative efforts involving multiple stakeholders resulted in the apprehension of 47 undocumented immigrants.
He 362 Aarto infringement notices totalling R144 750 were issued during a roadblock.
The operation ended in the east of Pretoria in the Silverton and Garsfontein police precincts.
This operation resulted in the arrest of 225 people, including 17 for driving under the influence of alcohol as well as 39 undocumented immigrants.
Furthermore, 25 liquor outlets were inspected for compliance, resulting in five being closed down and thousands of litres of liquor being confiscated.
He said 92 premises, 794 people and 317 vehicles were searched during this operation.
