Top schools netball teams compete at Menlopark tournament

Hoërskool Menlopark and SPAR North Rand recently hosted a prestigious Netball Festival for some of the country's very best netball schools.

One of the biggest school netball tournaments in South Africa was recently presented at Hoërskool Menlopark with support from SPAR North Rand.

After the tournament opened with an exhibition match between two of the country’s top senior sides – the popular Jaguars team from Pretoria and the North West Flames – the time has come for some of the country’s best netball schools to go head-to-head.

High school teams (u.13 to u.18) from all over the country, from schools such as Oranje Meisieskool, Paarl Girls, Helpmekaar, Noordheuwel, Bloemhof, Monument and the hosts, Hoërskool Menlopark then shared in the action on Menlo’s netball courts.

More than 1500 youth players participated in the event. 58 schools were represented. 270 officials were needed to keep things running smoothly and to keep the action going on the tracks.

“Our ties to netball stretch all the way from school level to the senior national team, and we are pleased to be able to continue our support of young girls who compete in South Africa’s most popular women’s sport,” said SPAR North Rand marketing executive Ralph Rajagopaul.

Despite the bad weather, the tournament was a huge success, with some seriously high-quality netball. In addition, seeing so many talented young players giving it their all on the court was great.
