Stepping off the political podium and into running shoes, Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba and Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament Solly Malatsi were spotted among the more than 2 000 athletes who participated in the fifth annual Mall of the North Marathon on Saturday.
Ramathuba is known for regularly competing in races and is an active member of Mzansi Athletics Club. She is a textbook example of an MEC who practices what she preaches by maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Malatsi was appointed as national spokesperson for the DA last year. His passion for sport, especially football, was clearly demonstrated when he registered the Solly Malatsi Legacy Sports Foundation as a non-profit organisation in 2017.
With the foundation Malatsi intends to bring on board pre-identified partners for projects aimed at empowering and educating young men and women through the provision of platforms presented by varying sporting codes and commitment to social responsibility programmes.
