Baroka Football Club’s hopes of surviving relegation took a dramatic nosedive after their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundows during their 26th match of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
The Ga-Mphahlele based outfit has been flirting with relegation since the beginning of the season and it seems it will be difficult for them to escape it given their performance this season.
They find themselves rooted in the 15th position of the league with 24 points and will be hoping for better results against fellow relegation candidates Free State Stars, Maritzburg United, Amazulu and tittle contenders Bidvest Wits whom they face in their last matches of the season.
Despite their performance in the league, Spokeperson of the club Mogau Maredi is confident that they will survive relegation. “We need 12 points from the last remaining four matches of the league in order to survive and we can do it. We are aware of the threat posed by the teams we will be facing in the last remaining matches and we are eager to beat them,”Maredi said.
Maredi further stated that they will be without star striker, Rodwell Chinyenkentere who is currently on suspension after receiving a red card against Mamelodi Sundowns.“We were hoping that he will be part of the team in the last remaining crucial matches of the season but it is not to be. However, we have other players in the team that can fill his position and deliver,” Maredi added.
