El Baruch raise funds for learners’ trip to Bloem

El Baruch Academy in Levubu hosted a fundraising event on Saturday, September 7 for learners from the school to attend the All Africa Student Convention (AASC) in Bloemfontein.

LEVUBU – El Baruch Academy in Levubu hosted a fundraising event on Saturday, September 7 for learners from the school to attend the All Africa Student Convention (AASC) in Bloemfontein.

The AASC is an annual event that is held over seven days from September 22 to 26.

High School learners from across Africa come together to compete in a variety of events, including art, sport, music, speech, drama and dance.

The AASC can best be described as a mini Olympics for learners in schools that are using the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) system.

Learners who excel in their events are nominated to attend the International Student Convention (ISC), which is held in the US annually.

“The International Student Convention (ISC) tour is a life-changing experience and an awesome opportunity for learners,” says Andurette Roos from El Baruch Academy.

Roos says El Baruch Academy decided to host a fundraising event to help learners attend the AASC. According to Roos, the supervisors, monitors and parents from the school each hosted their own table at the event.

At each table, eight women could be seated and tickets were sold at R100 per ticket. The person in charge of the table had to decorate their own table according to a theme. They had to serve food that fitted the theme.

The theme of the whole fundraising was: Welcome the new season. Roos says the guest speaker was Pastor Dalene van Niekerk from the Agapé Christian Centre in Makhado. Bernice Watson Clifton, also from the Agapé Christian Centre in Makhado played keyboard and sang a moving song.
