Military lends children’s home a helping hand

Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), in particular the Air Force Base (AFB) Makhado under the command of Brig Genl Schalk van Heerden made a donation of bedding in the form of duvets, duvet covers, inners, pillows and pillow cases to the Abraham Kriel Children's Home recently.

MAKHADO – Members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), in particular the Air Force Base (AFB) Makhado under the command of Brig Genl Schalk van Heerden made a donation of bedding in the form of duvets, duvet covers, inners, pillows and pillow cases to the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home recently.

Abraham Kriel Children’s Home is situated in Modimolle in the Waterberg district, 220km from Makhado’s AFB. The institution caters for vulnerable children who suffered emotional, alcoholic and physical abuse from their parents and the community.

According to the commander of Three Aircraft Servicing Unit (3 ASU), Col Moses Njomo, the purpose for the visit was to inspire and change the lives of the children while strengthening relations with the institution in honour of Nelson Mandela.

Vera Viviers received the donation on behalf of principal Stefanus Lombard. She said food parcels, clothes, blankets and any donationa were welcome. More than 150 children are expected to benefit from the donation.

The Abraham Kriel Children’s Home was found in 1959 in Nylstroom by Abraham Kriel, and this year marks its 54th year of existence.
