Traditional healers: new council elected and roles celebrated

THE Limpopo Health Practitioners Council (LHPC) was elected and African traditional medicine celebrated at Seshego Hospital last Friday.
Health and social development MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba said in line with the ANC’s dictum “Working Together We Can do More”, government was confident that a partnership with LHPC would ensure better quality health services.
Also attending the launch were various department officials, as well as representatives of the Polokwane Municipality and University of Limpopo.
“Despite the working relationship that is guided by the National Health Act and Traditional Health Practitioners Act, we have a standing relationship with the council on issues of circumcision schools, whereby the department has assisted and will continue to assist with equipment, human resources and training of council members on programmes concerning TB and HIV/aids,” Letsatsi-Duba concluded.
Members of the LHPC are:
• Chairperson – Abram Conrad Tsiane.
• Deputy chairperson – Morifi Nochodemus Makgabo.
• Secretary – Mbulaheni Alfred Neluvhola.
• Deputy secretary – Thomas Maluleka.
• Treasurer – Motsire Ephraim Masutha.
• Additional members – Lesiba Andries Mohatla, Ramokone Sophy Baloyi, Tlou Jackson Gopane, Butana Elvis Kubayi, Lydia Tshakhosi, Tsakani Genevah Shirinda, Mthavini Swinayena Mongwe, Jaremani George Makhubele, Meshi Walter Matlala and Stephina Kanyane Masela.
