Sisters, brothers rise up against abuse
The 2013 Sisters and Brothers in Heels was held on Saturday to raise awareness of abuse against women and children.
POLOKWANE – The 2013 Sisters and Brothers in Heels was held on Saturday to raise awareness of abuse against women and children.
Sandals, hiking shoes and flipflops were traded in for high heels to walk 3,7km around the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Forty-seven men and women took part in the fun walk. There were also teams that participated in the walk. Each person who took part in the walk received a medal. There were also certificates and hampers handed out to participants.
Anri Palm was the first woman over the finish line, Bernadine Hall came in second, while Chantelle Ströh came in third place.
The first man over the finish line was Jay Bekker, followed by Maverick Grieve and Deon Chetty in third place.
Special awards were presented to:
• Highest heel men – Michael Joubert.
• Highest heel women – Leverne Badenhorst.
• Biggest team – Clover.
• Fancy dress team – TWS Motorsport.
David Booth, the organiser of the event thanked the following people:
• Apcan for the security.
• Clover for the hampers, water, juices and music.
• Lizelle Martens.
• Tinus Jacobs for the wors rolls.
• The commitee and everyone who supported the walk.
