SASSA districts to utilise new cars

The South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) handed over new fleet vehicles to five district offices in the province during a ceremony in the city on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – The South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) handed over new fleet vehicles to five district offices in the province during a ceremony in the city on Thursday.

Sassa regional executive manager, Themba Mahlong, said the vehicles would be used as mobile offices that would call on villages situated far away from the district offices.

He further said the initiative was aimed at improving service delivery within these communities. “It was after some lengthy engagements and costs analysis exercises that it was decided to procure 183 cars, the cost of which is estimated at R20 million,” Mahlong said, adding that of these cars, 136 had been handed over to the district offices.

He further said the cars would also be part of the outreach programme aimed at delivering Sassa services directly to outlying villages.

Sassa communications manager, Norman Kutama said villages would be visited three times a week. “Sassa is working hard to gua-rantee that we improve service delivery at all our service points,” he said.

He appealed to officials to take good care of these new resources so that they could last as long as possible.
