RESIDENTS of Morapalala village in Bolobedu were encouraged to make use of the resources available to them in the combat against tuberculosis (TB).
Senior health officials visited the village as part of the health department’s TB Awareness campaign that was held at the Morapalala Clinic recently. The message was that the clinic could help residents fight the spread of TB.
Ridas Mathebula, a registered nurse at the Mugodeni Grace Clinic in N’wamitwa, was the main speaker at the event and said there were two kinds of TB; lung and bone. He said TB caused serious harm to the bodies infected people.
Mathebula called on the community to help health workers combat this disease. He repeatedly emphasised the importance of patients finishing the medication that doctors prescribed for TB to avoid the emergence and growth of drug resistant TB.
Elizabeth Malatji, a resident who suffered from TB and was completely healed, encouraged villagers to go to the clinic immediately if they experienced any symptoms of TB. “This illness can be beaten if you keep to all the doctors’ prescriptions,” she said.
Morapalala Clinic’s deputy chairperson, Daniel Baloyi, said they were very happy with the success of this campaign in their village.
He said awareness was a powerful tool in fighting diseases.
