PETER Mokaba’s brother, Ernest, is fuming after a tribute to his brother, who died in 2002, was hosted in the city while his family was still in the last stages of mourning the passing of their mother, Priscilla.
Peter Mokaba was an ANC stalwart, a member of parliament and deputy minister as well as the leader of the ANCYL
Ernest said he, his children and Peter’s children were not invited to the tribute concert, that was held over the weekend at the Peter Mokaba Stadium while the family was performing a cleansing ceremony for their mother.
“I am not a man who would abandon his mother’s cleansing ceremony to go to a concert. What happened was against tradition. I respected the last mourning days for my mother,” he said.
Organiser of the event, Petty Kgobe, said the organisers sent an invitation to all the tribute events to the entire family, including Ernest, Peter’s wife, Bongi, and their three children. “I gave the invitations to Peter’s sister, Mapula, and now I don’t understand what is happening. I don’t want to offend the Mokaba family. We started planning this event in 2012.”
CV tried to speak to Mapula Mokaba, but she was unavailable for comment.
