Dept staff put protest on hold

Department of health employees who were picketing during their lunch time last week have decided to temporarily put their protest on hold.

POLOKWANE – Department of health employees who were picketing during their lunch time last week have decided to temporarily put their protest on hold.

This comes after the different unions met with the head of the department (HOD), Dr Sipho Kabane to discuss the employees’ grievances on Wednesday afternoon.

The employees were angry and frustrated because they had not received their performance bonuses for the 2012/13 financial year.

Pieter Koen, provincial manager for the Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA) said the employees were supposed to have received their bonuses in July last year, but never did.

“The different unions met with the HOD on Wednesday (last week) and the matter was put on the table. The HOD asked that we give him time to follow up on the matter and he will give feedback soon regarding payments to the workers,” Koen explained.

By the time of going to print, the department had not given comment on the matter.
