IN an effort to speed up the process of repairing the province’s roads, the MEC for roads and transport, Lehlogonolo Masoga, distributed 43 graders among the five Limpopo district municipalities on Thursday.
The graders will be used to repair gravel roads in the Vhembe, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Waterberg and Capricorn districts. A total of 14 graders went to Capricorn, while Mopani received two, Sekhukhune 11, Vhembe 10 and Waterberg six.
Masoga said the objective of acquiring additional machinery was to improve routine maintenance on provincial gravel roads.
“All these graders will be sent to the respective districts so that the maintenance of gravel roads could start without delay. We are aware of the bad conditions of the roads, which was exacerbated by recent heavy rains experienced in the province. We promise to continue to work with the municipalities to improve the state of the roads, despite the limited budget at our disposal,” said Masoga.
“It is our responsibility as the department of roads and transport to build roads in the province. It is not a campaign for votes. We have a major backlog in the repainting of the roads across the province.”
