Police appeal for caution on roads
A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated by the Westenburg police after a man was knocked down by a vehicle at 19:20 last Monday evening.

POLOKWANE – A case of reckless and negligent driving is being investigated by the Westenburg police after a man was knocked down by a vehicle at 19:20 last Monday evening.
The accident happened on the corner of Ben Harris and Nylrivier Street.
According to the police, it is alleged that the vehicle was driving at a high speed in Ben Harris Street when the complainant and his son crossed the road. The complainant managed to get his son out of the way before the vehicle hit him. The man was taken to hospital for the necessary medical attention.
Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, Westenburg police spokesperson said no arrests have been made yet and police investigations are continuing.
The police appealed to motorists to be cautious and alert when using public roads and to adhere to the rules of the road to avoid accidents. The police also appealed to pedestrians to wear bright clothing at night so that they are visible for motorists to see, and to make use of intersections, or pedestrian crossing when crossing the road to avoid accidents.
In separate incident, the Westenburg police appealed to the community to help find the family of an unknown male in his early 30’s who died in an alleged mob attack.
Mashiane said the man allegedly tried to commit a house breaking in Disteneng, but was caught and the community seemingly formed a mob that assaulted him in the early hours of Sunday, May 4.
The man was taken to hospital where he died later. A murder case was being investigated by the Westenburg police.
