Wheelchair Wednesday back again
It is almost time for the Association of Persons with Disabilities' (APD) annual Wheelchair Wednesday initiative, which is held every Wednesday during the month of July.
POLOKWANE – It is almost time for the Association of Persons with Disabilities’ (APD) annual Wheelchair Wednesday initiative, which is held every Wednesday during the month of July.
Wheelchair Wednesday is an APD campaign in support of people living with disabilities who use wheelchairs.
APD aims to promote the development of people living with physical and or intellectual disabilities in Limpopo in order to enable them to attain a maximum level of independence and integration into the community.
Johnny Graham, Limpopo APD promotions and awareness officer urges local businesses to change a life by spending four hours in a wheelchair. “We want the whole community to be involved in this campaign and to support this year’s Wheelchair Wednesday, which will start on July 2,” says Graham.
Each entry costs R6 000. One entry will buy one wheelchair, which will be donated to a person living with disability.
The business or organisation that enters will send a volunteer to experience four hours in a wheelchair.
The participants will experience the difficulties that people with disabilities face daily when carrying out simple everyday tasks.
The APD is also looking for sponsors for the Wheelchair Wednesday campaign.
The closing date for entries for the 2014 Wheelchair Wednesday campaign is Friday, May 23.
Companies who want to team up with APD to have a successful campaign this year can contact Graham at (015) 291 1787/8, 079 970 7405 or send an e-mail to awareness@apdlimpopo.co.za.
