EXPLOSIVES and detonators valued at over R350 000 were recovered after 14 people were arrested in a joint crack-down by the Limpopo Hawks, the Musina police, and the defence force last week.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi, said the 14 suspects, aged between 18 and 42 years, were undocumented and all from Zimbabwe.
“They crossed the Limpopo River illegally and were taken into custody shortly thereafter.
“Explosive cartridges and 100 detonators were found in their bags,” Mulaudzi said.
The suspects appeared briefly before the Musina magistrate’s court on Friday and were due to appear again today (Wednesday).
Mulaudzi said the suspects’ identities were not officially established yet.
He added that the possibility that the explosives would have been used for ATM or safe blasts, or illegal mining, had not been excluded and investigations continued.
