FORMER head of the Greater Letaba Municipality’s finance committee, Melidah Nkwana, has been elected as the new council speaker, following an ANC decision to recall certain speakers and chief whips in several of the province’s municipalities recently.

Nkwana replaces Rosina Ramalatswa, who remains an ordinary councillor.

The announcement of this change in the municipal council follows weeks of speculations after the recall by the ANC.

According to ANC regional secretary, Bioskop Makamu, it was not yet clear who would replace former chief whip Corporal Masutha, but he confirmed that the position would be filled by the end of the week.

Cecilia Kgafela (finance committee), Marcus Kgatla (infrastructure), Philemon Malola (corporate and shared services), Masoko Sathekge-Sebola (water and sanitation), Evans Phatudi (local economic development), Jane Rababalela (roads and transport), Flora Morwasetlha (agriculture), Nellie Baloyi (special programmes) and Charles Seale (sport) also joined the council.
