3 men caught on farm with 11 hunting dogs

MAKHADO – Local farmers say they have to contend with poachers on a daily basis and the recent arrest of three alleged poachers was a welcome victory for them.

The four men were caught on Brett Schulman’s farm, next to the Makhado Air Force Base on Saturday.

Schulman said the men had 11 hunting dogs with them, and they killed two ostriches and three warthogs before they were caught in the act. “We saw the lights of their vehicle and when we stopped them, we found the carcasses. We called the police and they arrested the men. They found a 9mm pistol in the vehicle,” Schulman said.

Review contacted the Makhado police for comment, and AO Takalani Madzhigili, spokesperson, said the stock theft unit would investigate the case.
