POLOKWANE – Members of Maheroes, a men’s social club in Westenburg, celebrated Mandela Day by cleaning the Westenburg police station.
The members were joined in their clean-up campaign by members of the Westenburg Community Policing Forum (CPF), Westenburg police officials and residents.
They cut the grass, cleaned the garden, removed litter from the premises and cleaned the interior of the station.
After cleaning the station, they had some colddrinks, which were sponsored by Son’s Tavern.
Dan Mampa, the founder of Maheroes, said it was important to give back to the community and that 67 Minutes for Mandela should not just be on July 18, but every day.
“If you can make a difference in someone’s life, do it. Don’t wait for opportunities like Mandela Day before you do something good. It doesn’t have to be financial help, you can help someone by just spending time with an elderly person who does not have family, or cleaning someone’s yard, who cannot do it themselves. Those of us who are more fortunate don’t realise that the small things in life mean so much more than all the money in the world,” Mampa said.
