Fauna Park streetlights now off

POLOKWANE – The streetlights in Fauna Park that were burning 24 hours a day, seven days a week were switched off last week.
This follows an article in Review, in which residents complained that the municipality asked them to use electricity wisely by switching off what they did not use, but the municipality did not practise what they preached.
Residents confirmed that the streetlights in Blesbok, Waterbok, Gemsbok and Nayala Streets burned throughout the day and the municipality did not do anything to fix the problem after they reported the matter.
“We have reported the matter several times to the municipality and they keep on saying they will send someone, but no one ever comes,” one resident said.
Review visited the streets and could confirm that the streetlights indeed burned throughout the day.
Last Monday, Review visited the streets again and this time the lights were switched off.
Residents also confirmed that the lights were switched off shortly after the article appeared in Review.
Malesela Maubane, a municipal spokesperson said the municipality was committed to ensuring there was no electricity wastage.
“With regard to the particular streets in Fauna Park, we had a challenge with daylight switches thus the lights were not switching off as they were on bypass position. Electrical services are responsible for maintenance of electricity within the municipal boundaries including street lights.
“We therefore urge residents to report any electricity problems at (015) 290 2490/2458.”
