Women encouraged to lead their communities to a bright future

FEMALE students and workers at the University of Venda (Univen) were urged to know their strength and to take in a leadership role with power and authority.

FEMALE students and workers at the University of Venda (Univen) were urged to know their strength and to take in a leadership role with power and authority.

This call was made by the Commission of Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) Pretoria candidate commissioner, Zodwa Maluleke, who was the guest speaker at Univen’s recent Women’s Day celebration that was held at Univen’s art gallery.

The theme for the day was Women Unite Against Violence.

“We still need more women in the law profession and we want to see more women as qualified judges and magistrates. Women must lead us to the future,” Maluleke said.

She said women needed to protect their children against violence.

“As women we must know more about matters affecting marriage, as well as our children’s rights. We can do more to address the issue of gender violence if we take power and authority as women,” she added.

Univen director of community engagement, Prof Vhonani Netshandama, said the event was a way of acknowledging and celebrating women’s successes.

“We must look at the challenges that women face at their workplaces and in their families. We must develop committees to deal with the challenges that women encounter.

“We want to encourage men in the workplace to recognise the work of women,” Netshandama said.

Speaking on behalf of Univen’s administration personnel, Mercy Mbelengwa said women should strive and pray for a better future.
