Tea party benefits the needy

WITH the help of family, friends and colleagues, Nkhanedzeni Vhuromu (36), a horticulturist at the Polokwane Municipality hosted a tea party at Mike’s Kitchen on Saturday to collect sanitary towels for needy learners.

The tea party also included some games, motivational talks as well as prizes for the best dressed woman and most gene-rous giver of the day.

Vhuromu said she wanted the women to come together and address challenges faced by women in the city.

All the women who attended the tea party were required to bring along three packets of sanitary towels.

“I just felt it in my heart that I should help disadvantaged girls and encourage others to give.

“I always felt it was imperative that I share the little that I have with the needy. I did some research and found that girl learners skip classes when they are menstruating as they do not have sanitary towels to use,” said Vhuromu.

“With the help of my cousin, Pfarelo Mahafha, we identified a school in need in Ha-Mulima-Muwaweni, Mainganye Secondary School, where we will donate the 520 sanitary towels we collected.”

She told Express that through the help of her close friends, Thina Naledzani and Tshimbi-luni Radzhadzhi Mashemaite, the tea party was a success.

She thanked everyone who contributed to the event and those who encouraged her to embark on more such initiatives.

She said she would continue to address the needs of those who are less fortunate.
