POLOKWANE – Sun Meropa, formerly known as Meropa Casino and Entertainment World, welcomed new general manager, Themba Marasha, last Monday.
Themba (45) is a family man and happily married to Edith. They have three daughters.
Themba was born in Mbombela, where he also matriculated. He then moved to KwaZulu-Natal to obtain his BCom honours degree at the University of Zululand.
“I also obtained a post graduate diploma in management and then attended an executive development programme (EDP) at the University of Nevada.”
He remembers his first job. “It was at a finance business, the Eastern Transvaal Group Credit Company, which was later bought by the African Bank. I worked there for approximately two years.
“The job I had just before I relocated to Polokwane was as chief compliance officer at the National Gambling Board.”
Themba says he enjoys the challenges of his new position.
“My job entails to strategically shape the unit to ensure customers are happy and shareholders’ expectations are met. I have to add value to the business environment of Limpopo.”
He has a lot of plans for Sun Meropa and to turn the establishment into a new brand, recognised nationally.
Themba’s favourite part of the job is his contact with clients to ensure they are happy.
“I like to motivate my staff by making the work environment conclusive and in line with industrial standards. There were some retrenchments, but I do not foresee that there would be any more.”
The most difficult situation Themba ever had to face was losing personnel that he had to retain to bring their skill back into the business.
“When I am not working, I love working on cars and I’m an aviation fanatic. I also love music like hip hop and spending time with my family.”
