MOKOPANE – THOUSANDS of Mogalakwena residents are casting their votes today (Wednesday) in the by-elections, and the voting stations opened as early as 07:00 and will close at 21:00.
Special voting for those who applied took place yesterday (Tuesday).
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) leader in Limpopo, Nkaro Mateta, said the wards’ vacancies in Mogalakwena existed as a result of the expulsion of ward councillors.
She said the ANC, African People’s Convention (APC) and the EFF were contesting ward 4.
“The ANC and EFF are contesting wards 7, 15 and 16. In ward 18, it is a three-horse race between the ANC, Cope and the EFF. The APC is competing against the ANC in ward 19,” she said.
“In wards 21 and 23, the ANC, Cope and EFF are competing. In ward 24, the race is between the ANC, EFF and United Democratic Movement (UDM).
“In ward 28, the ANC, Azanian People’s Organisation (Azapo) and the EFF are standing. The biggest contest is in ward 28, where the EFF, Cope, Azapo, APC and the ANC are in a tug of war for votes.
“There will be no by-elections taking place in wards 13 and 17 as only one party showed interest in contesting, and that party is the ANC.
“By law, the ANC has won these wards,” Mateta said.
