MUSINA – NO WASTE company can keep a town or city clean when residents litter and dump waste illegally.
If residents join in the cleaning up of their environment and keep it clean, there will be a cleaner, safer and more hygienic city or town.
This was according to Musina Municipality waste, parks and recreations manager, Rendani Kutama, during a clean-up campaign that was led by councillors and senior officials of the municipality recently.
Kutama said the most fundamental part of the clean-up campaign took the form of education about the importance of keeping the environment clean and ensuring local facilities were kept in good and clean condition.
“Through this campaign in the week preceding the International Coastal Clean-up, we seek to achieve two main objectives. Firstly, we clean up our environment, which then allows people to live healthier lives. Secondly, we teach people about methods they can use to keep their environments clean,” she explained.
“It brings me joy to see that residents responded positively to our call. I can safely say that we have achieved our objectives today through this clean-up campaign. I hope this year’s campaign sets the tone for our people to avoid littering in our beautiful town,” she said.
Municipal councillor, James Kaunda, emphasised that everyone had a responsibility to keep Musina clean.
“A clean environment always brings smiles to many faces. I hope cleaning up the streets of Musina will continue.”
