Mayor commits muni to excellence

Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng recommitted herself and the municipality to providing services to all residents of the city, during this year's first council meeting on Thursday.

POLOKWANE – Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng recommitted herself and the municipality to providing services to all residents of the city, during this year’s first council meeting on Thursday.

Nkadimeng said the municipality intended to guarantee the dignity of all people through the provision of proper sanitation, provision of clean drinking water, electrification and accessible roads.

“We will do this in order to eliminate the once catastrophic loss of identity, human dignity, land dispossession, classification and denigration of people as sub-humans,” she said.

She called on everyone present to unite in ensuring that the municipality drew on the energy and genius of all stakeholders in order to create something that would be new, good and beautiful.

“Smart people are led by smart leaders,” she said, and added that, in pursuit of excellence, she would burn the midnight oil towards obtaining her master’s degree in community and development studies. She extended a challenge to all officials to improve their skills and qualifications.

Nkadimeng announced the names of additional members of the mayoral committee. Mariri Ralefatane would be responsible for the housing portfolio, Jennifer Malope would take care of the waste and environment portfolio and Alfred Moakamedi would chair the ethics committee.
