Kwasa-kwasa king, traffic officials at war over ‘theft’

RENOWNED king of the kwasa-kwasa dance, Steven "Malo A Botsheba" Sefofa, is involved in a wrangle with the department of transport over 50 cents in change

TZANEEN – RENOWNED king of the kwasa-kwasa dance, Steven “Malo A Botsheba” Sefofa, is involved in a wrangle with the department of transport over 50 cents in change.

Sefofa, who is also a taxi owner in the Bolobedu area outside Tzaneen, accused traffic officials attached to the department of stealing his money, some R1 529 according to him, and leaving only 50 cents in change.

He said one of his taxis was impounded by the traffic officials near the shopping complex in Kgapane outside Modjadjiskloof last Thursday.

“When they impounded the taxi, there was about R1 529 in the ashtray.

“But a day later when I went there, security guards refused me access to my minibus taxi,” Sefofa said.

“The security guard in charge showed me detailed documents indicating that there was only 50 cents in the ashtray. The document also showed that there was no spare wheel, yet I know that the spare wheel was there when the vehicle was impounded,” Sefofa insisted.

“I want the department to explain to me why they drove my minibus taxi after impounding it. I expected them to tow my car as per policy, but this was not done,” he added.

Transport spokesperson, Kagiso Mootane, said the department was speaking to officials in Mopani to understand the problem.

“We have opened talks with the traffic managers from Tzaneen and Mopani to try to understand Sefofa’s claims. We will be informed by the outcome of the investigation what action, if any, needs to be taken.”
