Prifix shares life experiences in songs

A YOUNG hip hop artist wants to share his challenges of growing up with young people so they can be motivated to change their circumstances.

THOHOYANDOU – A YOUNG hip hop artist wants to share his challenges of growing up with young people so they can be motivated to change their circumstances.

Tendani “Prifix” Mathaga (21) from Mapate outside Thohoyandou says his music is about the daily struggles that young people face.

He says his long awaited album, Born and Raised, will be released on Saturday.

Prifix says the album has 16 tracks, which feature artists such as Fizzy, Bhamba and Coodie Brown.

“I am excited about the album and hope that the fans will appreciate my music. My music talks about how I was raised, all the challenges I have faced and how I overcame difficult situations,” says Prifix.

He says he believes a lot of people will be motivated by the album.

“My music does not really have language barriers because I use Tshivenda and English as I want my message to reach a large audience. I don’t make music for specific people. I accommodate everyone because I am all about embracing the spirit of the rainbow nation,” he says.

Prifix says it was not an easy journey to get to where he is, but he thanks everyone who has supported him.

“Some people undermined my talent and shut doors in my face thinking I didn’t have what it takes to make it. Others believed in me and gave me a chance to showcase my skills and talent. It was a learning experience, what matters is where I am today.”

He is currently studying language practice at Tshwane University of Technology and encourages others to take their education seriously.

“For someone to become good in what they do, they need an education to develop themselves. It is the ultimate yardstick for success.”
