THE financial constraints under which the Mopani District Municipality was operating will soon be a thing of the past following a substantial injection of funds by the national treasury.
The department injected R90 million into the municipality last week and a further R123 million was on the cards, Mopani councillor Nkakareng Rakgoale said during a media briefing in Tzaneen earlier this week.
For the past five months, the municipality experienced serious financial constrains leading to the institution paying the salaries of its employees late.
Service providers were affected due to late or non-payments.
“We can now announce that our municipality is out of the woods. We can say that our finances are viable. We can now breathe a sigh of relief and go back to the drawing board in ensuring that our people receive services that will change their lives for the better,” Rakgoale said.
ANC regional secretary, Bioskop Makamu said his party would work with the municipality to make sure that service delivery was of high quality.
