Swift response leads to two arrests

ROEDTAN – GOOD teamwork by the business owners and police in Roedtan on Wednesday led to the swift arrest of two of the suspected robbers thought to be responsible for a recent spate of filling station robberies.

Maj Genl Nyiketani Baloyi, acting deputy provincial commissioner of operational services, said if others followed these business owners’ example, criminals would no place to freely commit their crimes and get away with it.

The suspects are thought to have been part of an eight person gang that robbed several filling stations in the province, including one in Mokopane.

Moments before the suspects could flee a filling station in Roedtan, they were apprehended. The owner of the filling station had apparently already activated the police and his neighbours who surprised the suspects.

Some shots were reportedly fired and in the process two suspects were apprehended while the other six fled in a silver grey Mercedes Benz without registration plates.

A silver grey Toyota Corolla allegedly driven by suspects was confiscated by the police.

A search for the remaining suspects was still on and the two suspects in custody were expected to appear before the Roedtan magistrate’s court on a charge of armed robbery.
