LIMPOPO – THE Thulamela Municipality has procured a roller pan mixer for R1,2 million to speed up the construction of roads in the municipality.
During a demonstration at the Thulamela Municipality’s satellite offices in Tshilungoma last Wednesday, Mike Kershaw of Pan Mixer Technology said the machine would create a true legacy project by stimulating the creation of new jobs, converting them into sustainable businesses and turning impoverished communities into valuable assets for municipalities and road authorities.
According to Kershaw, the roller pan mixer project was initiated by the late Collins Chabane while he was still the MEC for public works in Limpopo.
Rendani Mulaudzi, Thulamela Municipality chief technician road services, said the machine would help to create more jobs through road maintenance.
“Through this system, our labourer would be able to run pothole patching and repairs. The machine has been very specifically designed as a labour intensive road surfacing system.
“With its high labour requirement, the system is an excellent tool for job creation and poverty relief programmes while effectively adding value by training local communities to manufacture quality cold asphalt which can be used for improving the deteriorating secondary road network,” said Mulaudzi.
