POLOKWANE – The Capricorn District municipal manager, Ngoako Molokomme has resigned. The council noted and accepted his resignation on Tuesday during a council meeting.

Molokomme was appointed in July 2011 on a five-year contract and his resignation comes just a year before his contract lapses.

According to municipal spokesperson, Moffat Senyatsi, Molokomme’s focus was on turning around successfully the municipality’s financial management and audit systems.

“He put in place systems to improve project management and enhance the quality of completed infrastructure projects,” Senyatsi said.

“During his tenure, he made significant strides to build a district municipality that is responsive to the diverse needs and aspirations of the people of Capricorn.

“He built and led a competent and capable administration that showed success in surmounting a myriad of cross-cutting challenges in the delivery of basic services and in financial management. The Capricorn District Municipality thus received unqualified audit opinion in the 2013/14 financial year.”

Under Molokomme’s administration, the municipality received recognitions and awards in numerous areas such as for the improved financial management award from the South African Local Government Association, the Bokamoso award for implementing expanded public works programme (EPWP) projects, the best marketed district award, as well as the gender mainstreaming award for being the centre of excellence in the SADC region.

Molokomme said he was resigning “to take a rest” and felt he needed to be close to his family.

The Capricorn District Municipal council and councillors wished him well for the future and thanked him for his passion, commitment and hard work.

Molokomme will work until June 12 and an acting municipal manager will be appointed in due course.
