POLOKWANE – Potholes in the city’s roads are becoming a bigger problem for motorists in the city.
In some instances the potholes have been left so long that it has led to the exposing of water pipes that are now being damaged by vehicles driving over them.
In some roads, like Burger Street, a water leak that has been repaired caused a pothole almost a meter wide and almost 10cm deep while the leak was still present.
Motorists say that potholes were especially dangerous to cyclists and motorcyclists in the city. Cyclist Koos Duvenhage said that he is a frequent cyclist and often makes use of Burger Street and due to the disrepair of the roads, his cycling has become the cause of anger for several motorists as he tries to avoid the pothole.
Polokwane municipal spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said that potholes can be reported to the administration and maintenance department at the Polokwane municipality on 015 290 2084.
She said that the municipality is urging the residents and motorists to report potholes to the municipality as soon as possible. “When reports are given of potholes, the municipality can look into getting the matter fixed as soon as possible.
We need the residents to be our eyes and ears in this matter and report the problems to the correct departments where they can be followed up and sorted out.” Chuene said.
The problems can also be reported on 015 290 2372 and 015 290 2376.
