Locals say no to corruption with a march

SINGING revolutionary songs, Mokopane residents marched to the Mogalakwena Municipality last Friday to raise concerns against corruption and malpractice in the municipality

MOKOPANE – SINGING revolutionary songs, Mokopane residents marched to the Mogalakwena Municipality last Friday to raise concerns against corruption and malpractice in the municipality.

The protesters were escorted by the Mokopane police and traffic officials.

“The march is aimed at addressing issues of service delivery and the general corruption in the area. We have noticed that the current political leadership is corrupt and they are sponsoring the murders of community activists who are opposed to their self-enrichment campaign,” stated Matsheledisha Kekana, SANCO Mogalakwena sub-region zonal chairperson, in a media statement.

Asked for comment on the march, Kekana told Bosveld: “we handed over a memorandum of grievances with all our concerns to the Mogalakwena mayor, Tlhalefi Mashamaite, the office of the premier and the provincial police commissioner, in the hope that these concerns will be resolved”.

Mashamaite said: “the march was attended by less than 100 people, the memorandum with their demands that they handed over was not directed at the Mogalakwena Municipality, but the office of the premier and the office of the provincial police commissioner”.
