LIMPOPO – WHILE awaiting the processes that will lead to the appointment of a new municipal manager to be completed, the Greater Tzaneen Municipality has appointed Pierre van den Heever as acting municipal manager with effect from Monday, June 1 until the end of August.

Van den Heever’s appointment was made during a recent special council meeting.

Van den Heever, who is the director of electrical engineering services, is the second person to be appointed as acting municipal manager since the expulsion of Masiye Mankabidi earlier this year.

Van den Heever takes over from Norah Lion, who was appointed as acting municipal manager from December 1 last year until February.

Her term was extended by another three months by the council and this extension ended on May 31.

Van den Heever (53) is a proud father of three and has extensive experience in the local government field. He started working for the Greater Tzaneen Municipality in 1991 as deputy electrical engineer.

Van den Heever has a national higher diploma in electrical engineering from Vaal Triangle, now known as the Vaal University of Technology.

He also obtained a government certificate of competency for mines and factories when he was trained at the gold mines in Welkom.

He also enrolled to study for a junior engineering course, and he qualified in 1990.

DA spokesperson in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Brown Mashele, said the DA welcomed the appointment of Van den Heever.
