LOUIS TRICHARDT – VYEBOOM residents received a stern warning from Makhado mayor, David Mutavhatsindi, not to illegally connect water pipelines, as this could lead to legal action against them.
It is known that the Vyeboom and Vu communities resorted to the illegal connection of pipelines, claiming that the Vhembe District Municipality failed to provide them with water tankers. Mutavhatsindi said the illegal connection of waterpipes negatively affected communities.
“Of course people don’t have water but, we can’t allow illegal connections. This is not a banana republic. Even though the Vu community is occupying the land illegally, we still have a responsibility to supply them with basic services, such as water. We have notified the Vhembe District Water Services Authority who is responsible for the lack of water in these areas ,” he said.
Last month, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) donated a borehole to the thirsty community of Vu.
This donation came after the traditional leader of the Vu village, Nelson Ramathithi approached the EFF to assist them.
A senior traditional leader in the Vuwani area, Nthumeni Masia, said the Vu community occupied the portion of land illegally. “The place they called Vu belongs to the Masia Traditional Authority.
“We have already reported the illegal occupation of land to the department of cooperative governance, human settlements and traditional affairs.” According to local goverment spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, the department was still investigating the illegal occupation of land by the Vu community.
