Burst pipe still causing a headache for residents

Several households found themselves without water due to recent pipe bursts in the city.

POLOKWANE – Several households found themselves without water due to recent pipe bursts in the city.

Families in Compensatie Street found themselves without water for three days last week when a pipe burst on the corner of Compensatie and Devenish Streets. According to the families, the pipe burst on the evening of Tuesday, June 16.

One of the residents, Jan Nilson, said: “We called the municipality repeatedly and tried to explain that having a small baby and being without water was a problem, but no one came out. It was only late on Wednesday morning that municipal workers arrived and dug a hole to fix the pipe, but they left the hole open.”

Nilson said as there was water around the hole, some people slipped and fell into the hole although it was cordoned off.

“The ground is soft and the ground gave away as people walked on the pavement,” he said. Polokwane municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said the matter would be referred to the correct people and the hole would be closed. But upon investigation, it was found that the hole was still open on Monday.
