Motorists can collect drivers licence cards at traffic department

There is light at the end of the tunnel for motorists who renewed their driver's licence cards, but are still waiting for their cards to be issued by the municipal traffic department.

POLOKWANE – There is light at the end of the tunnel for motorists who renewed their driver’s licence cards, but are still waiting for their cards to be issued by the municipal traffic department.

The municipality confirmed that the traffic department received more than 10 000 driver’s licence cards last week, which must be issued.

This after several complaints from motorists who claimed they renewed their licences in April and May, but had not received them yet.

Municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, confirmed that the municipal traffic department had not received the cards since the end of April.

“Driving License Card Account (DLCA), a trading entity under the national department of transport, took over the function of manufacturing and delivering of driver’s licence cards from the previous service provider on May 5, which unfortunately affected the turnaround time for the delivery of the licence cards. This has been a national challenge and the department of transport has put in place a recovery plan to address the backlog. The situation should be back to normal by July 15,” Chuene said.

For more information, residents can contact the municipality at (015) 290 2414.
