Give with Wheelchair Wednesday
Association for People with Disability (APD) Limpopo presents the 2015 Wheelchair Wednesday campaign to raise money to buy brand-new custom fitted wheelchairs for children and adults with disabilities.
POLOKWANE – For most people being reliant on a wheelchair for mobility is unimaginable, and not having a wheelchair when needed even more so.
With wheelchairs being so very expensive, many people who really need one cannot afford them.
This is the reason the Association for People with Disability (APD) Limpopo presents the 2015 Wheelchair Wednesday campaign to raise money to buy brand-new custom fitted wheelchairs for children and adults with disabilities. The aim of the campaign is firstly to provide wheelchairs, secondly create awareness and thirdly to raise money for APD Limpopo’s service delivery.
The APD Limpopo Wheelchair Wednesday campaign started in 2013. To date the campaign has handed over a total of 43 wheelchairs to beneficiaries in Limpopo, with a target set of 40 wheelchairs for the 2015 campaign. For every wheelchair sponsored, you can change the lives of five people.
The campaign kicked off with a launch function on Wednesday, June 10 with upcoming wheelchair challenges to sponsors or participants every Wednesday of July. The entry fee to the campaign is R6 000, which will buy a brand-new custom fitted wheelchair to a beneficiary of the sponsor’s choosing. Each sponsor will receive a Section 18A tax receipt, certificate of participation, media coverage and the priviledge of personally handing over the wheelchair to their beneficiary at a handover event.
“Many entries have been received and more are needed to reach the target of 40 wheelchairs,” Johnny Graham, public education and awareness officer and fundraiser, said.
Graham encouraged companies, social groups and individuals to participate in the campaign. Combined entries are also welcome.
