LIMPOPO – A MASHASHANE police officer, Maj Matidi Rameetse, said every teacher, learner and school governing body (SGB) member had a role to play in reporting any sort of crime at schools.

Rameetse spoke during a crime prevention campaign at Radipitsi Secondary School in Ga-Phaudi, Moletjie recently.

The police partnered with community police forums (CPF), department of social development, correctional services and the Aganang Municipality for the campaign.

Rameetse said they would work hard to root out crime in schools.

“As the police, we want to see learners doing well in school and stop them from being engaged in criminal activities. This is also a way to ensure school-based crime prevention takes place,” said Rameetse.

Ngoako Makgakga, a gr. 11 learner, echoed the polices’ sentiments and urged the learners to focus on their studies and not engage in criminal activities.

“From now on, I will make sure my school work is done well at all times. The police should keep on visiting schools as this will help a lot in terms of improving schools,” said Makgakga.

Const Brigid Kunutu, said drugs and alcohol were a major problem in schools, and that statistics showed that Phaudi village had a high rate of crime.

“Parents should always know where their children are and what are they doing at all times, this will assist in reducing the high rate of crime,” said Kunutu.

One of the teachers, Albert Moraba, said he was happy with the police’s efforts.

“Working together with the police will benefit us a lot,” said Moraba.
