Library keeps them busy

Learners in and around Polokwane have something to look forward to every morning, with the winter school holiday programme offered by the Polokwane city library.

POLOKWANE – Learners in and around Polokwane have something to look forward to every morning, with the winter school holiday programme offered by the Polokwane city library.

Maurdy Dunster, programme coordinator, said the main purpose of the programme was to keep learners busy and away from the streets during the school holidays. “We teach children various things such as painting, drawing and reading among others. The programmes are held every year during the winter school holidays in all the libraries in the province,” said Dunster.

She added that the programme had been running for a long time and children learn while having fun. Lethabo Phasha, one of the learners who attended the programme, said she was happy with the way the library was running the programme.

“The programme is fun and educational and we enjoy the lessons rendered. Schools should encourage their learners to attend such programmes during the winter holidays to keep up the pace,” said Phasha.

She further said she had to go and fetch her friend to attend the programme after she realised that her friend could also learn a lot from it. Learners were treated to other activities such as puppet shows, story telling and art.

Alyan Uddin, another attendee, said he enjoyed the puppet show most and he would continue to attend the programme to learn more about other things.
