LIMPOPO – IT was joyous occasion at Madiphatlokgomo Primary School in Sekgakgapeng village in Mokopane when Vodacom Limpopo handed over food parcels to 1 000 learners last Tuesday.
Each learner received a nutritious food parcel, which consisted of peanut butter, baked beans, sugar beans, canned mixed vegetables, jam, canned pilchards and maize meal.
Vodacom Limpopo managing executive, Chris Lazarus said the initiative formed part of a larger project which the Vodacom Foundation rolled out across the nation, building on its inaugural food security drive launched in 2013 in honour of Mandela Day.
“This year the project will see a total of 4 000 food parcels packed by Vodacom employees be distributed to three schools in the province. This forms part of giving back to the community. We would like to urge fellow South Africans to also take part in Mandela Day by feeding the hungry and helping the needy,” said Lazarus.
Potgietersrus education circuit, circuit manager, David Mufamadi, said the donation would encourage the learners to come to school everyday.
“This programme will encourage people to use Vodacom because they are giving back to the community,” said Mufamadi.
The principal, Victor Tlale, thanked Vodacom Limpopo for the food parcels.
“The learners really needed these food parcels. The donation is a relief to the school management, because learners will no longer come to school on an empty stomach. We really appreciate what Vodacom Limpopo did for the learners,” said Tlale.
