Junior chess players from the Capricorn district gathered at Curro Northern Academy to compete in a chess tournament

POLOKWANE – Junior chess players from the Capricorn district gathered at Curro Northern Academy to compete in a chess tournament on Saturday.

The tournament was regarded as the national qualifying challenge where players had to do their best in order to accummulate as many points as possible and qualify for the South African Junior Chess Championships that will be held in Cape Town in January next year.

Players competed in the u/10, u/12 and u/14 categories.

According to Frans Badenhorst, the event organiser, the tournament was aimed at preparing players ahead of the national chess championships.
