Mitchell House show off their art
Mall of the North and Mitchell House hosted their first-ever art exhibit as a team
POLOKWANE – Mall of the North and Mitchell House hosted their first-ever art exhibit as a team last Thursday.
Learners’ artwork was exhibited throughout the mall, while parents, family, friends and shoppers had the opportunity to view the learners’ artwork at leisure, as well as see the drama class enact some drama pieces. The exhibit ended this week.
Speaking at the official opening of the art exhibit, the mall’s general manager, Sumari de Ridder, said the purpose of the exhibition was to show everyone how wonderfully talented the learners from the mall’s neighbour, Mitchell House, are. “When we first thought of transforming the mall into an art gallery, we immediately approached our neighbouring school. We want to thank all the learners and teachers for their hard work and dedication. It is wonderful to see how much talent there is,” De Ridder said.
The headmaster, Andrew Cook, opened with a quote from Pablo Picasso: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”
Cook highlighted the importance of participation and thanked De Ridder and René van der Merwe, the mall’s marketing manager, for the faith they have in the school. “We are the first school to do this. Fine art requires participants. Thank you for this opportunity.”
Also taking a turn to speak, Van der Merwe complimented Mitchell House on having learners who are really well behaved. “We are proud to work Mitchell House,” she added.
